The Kenya Plan to End AIDS in Children by 2027
Once a child has acquired HIV, without the appropriate care and treatment, about a third of these children die by their first birthday, 50% by the age of 2 years, and 80% by 5 years. Timely initiation and support for HIV Treatment to pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV reduces mother-to-child transmission of HIV and is the cornerstone of giving every child a HIV free start. Timely testing and treatment of children who are HIV infected is critical to prevent them from deteriorating to AIDS and dying.
